» mysql2sqlite, this helped me just the other day with a friend who was having problems with their cheap web host's mysql instance. We dumped the DB and just converted to sqlite3, everything's running fine now. #
» Remove Duplicate Messages, an add-on for Thunderbird Mail. I used this with great success (I think copying my local folders as a sync between multiple machines just kept overwriting, at one point some messages were duplicated 5 times...) I was a bit cautious to begin with but it worked great, highly recommended if you keep most of your mail archive like I do. #
» Reverse Engineering the TP-Link HS110. I have one of the TP-Link wifi lightbulbs someone reverse engineered and made a NodeJS command set for, and it's available as an integration in Home Assistant. It's actually really nice and NOT having to use their app is fantastic. #
» New Wave Toys, miniature replicas of old arcade games. These are very cool and reasonably priced, if I had somewhere to put them I'd buy a whole set. #
» Change netplan renderer from networkd to NetworkManager. I ended up doing this on my desktop machine running KDE Plasma since Plasma kept deciding I didn't have a network connection (it couldn't see it) so the Plasma Discover tool for software installs and updates kept telling me I wasn't on a network... I usually just use "apt" from the command line anyway but this annoyed me enough to make the switch. #
» Your Smart TV is probably ignoring your PiHole. This infuriates me, and add in the DNS over HTTPs (DoH) and it's a grim future for those of us who want control of our networks. #
» The State of Voice Dictation in Linux. That's an interesting use of KDE Connect that I hadn't even considered before. #
» Presence Publisher, an Android app to push a notification to an MQTT server whenever it connects to your local wifi. Handy for home automation for sure. #
» Hack Your Gear: The Skin Re-Glue. I ended up doing this with the parchment paper for re-gluing my climbing skins this winter, it worked well using just a hot wax iron. I ended up skipping the paper bag since it was more trouble than it was worth (and the iron never got so hot it was a problem.) #
» Android Forensics: imaging android filesystem using ADB and DD. I was using this to try and capture an image to attempt an un-delete of a corrupted video file and while it worked I got all kinds of weird permissions errors when mounting as a loop-back. Still, the idea was sound and if it was something critical I would spend more time on it. #
» Create your own VPN server with WireGuard in Docker. This, along with the reference for the docker config at DockerHub - Wireguard and the quick addition of my local LAN via reddit - Access LAN network from wireguard docker container means I now have a Wireguard server running on my NAS at home. I've been running an OpenVPN server on a Pi for a long time (via PiVPN) and I think I'm going to see if I can get a docker version of that running on the NAS as well (always good to have a choice in protocols if you can). The configuration has gotten significantly better for wireguard over the years since I last tried it (when it was said you cannot run it in docker, and every config I tried was broken because there just wasn't much documentation.) #
» Bosch AquaStar Service Bulletins. I'm very impressed with this, based on these and finding the right parts at HouseNeeds.com I was able to disassemble and rebuild my water inlet valve on my heater. According to the service guide it's supposed to be done "every 4-5 years" but this was the first time I'd done it in the 15 years I've had the heater. #
» Container networking is simple. Good guide, and I especially like how he tied it to the way Docker does it at the end. #
» What I Learned in Avalanche School. Super interesting, even though I only go places that have no avy danger. #
» Hole Distance Measuring Calipers. That's a great idea, 3D printed caps for your calipers to center inside the holes, which is something that's normally a huge pain to do. #
» Ultimate-Box-Maker. Someday I'll own a 3D printer and this will come in handy... #
» RTD Physical Map. This is the kind of map I prefer to see, an overlay of transit on an actual map of the city, makes it way easier to figure out how to get where I'm trying to go. #
» The Inventing Room, a Colorado based candy company with some delicious looking stuff (too bad I'm trying to get away from sugar!) #
» Oreo Cookie Filling Dip. I mean sure, if you only want a small amount... But did you know you can buy bags of Oreo filling?? #
» Trackpoint for Life! an Etsy shop dedicated to selling replacement trackpoints (nubs, nipples, whatever you call them). Prominent on Thinkpad laptops they also showed up on other brands. I like the recessed version, still lets you use it but won't get caught when speed typing... #
» Rockhounding In Colorado: Where To Find Geodes. I have to admit, I had no idea that was a thing here, though I do remember being fascinated with geodes as a kid. #
» Why experts are sounding the alarm about the hidden dangers of gas stoves. Well that's a bummer, I have been getting close to replacing my electric cooktop with gas so I can get better heat control (and faster heating). Sounds like a not good idea right now though. Unfortunately I have a fair amount of aluminum pots and pans so going induction cooktop would mean I'd have to replace a fair amount of my cookware too...
The thread I came across this article lists a portable induction unit for less than a hundred dollars, I may pick one of those up and see how it works, and see what I'd have to replace... #
» Face Changing Shining LED Matrix Full Mask. That is really cool and at around a hundred dollars I think super reasonable in price for what you are getting. #
» Stopping phishing campaigns with bash, how to poison phishing sites with fake data. Many a time I've wanted to do something similar... #

» Alderfer/Three Sisters Park Bouldering. I've mountain biked and hiked there plenty of times and I knew about a bouldering area but I had no idea there were so many rocks! #
» A 'Low Memory' GIF decoder. He demonstrates by running some animated gifs on a couple microcontrollers with 1 inch screens which is super impressive. #
» Smartphone Hardening non-root Guide. What to do with your Android phone to make it more privacy-conscious, especially if you don't have root (and if you don't know what that means you definitely don't have it). #
» Colorado Noxious and Invasive Plants List. As in "the list of plants you should never intentionally plant and should remove aggressively if you ever find them". I was surprised how long the list actually is, that's more than a few. #
