The recent activity (October 2004) of the Mt. St. Helens volcano meant that all roads and hiking trails on and near the mountain were closed off. Jane and I took a day trip up from Portland though just to be sightseeing tourists, these photos are the result of a drive along Highway 502 from the Castle Rock exit off I-5. The Johnston Ridge Observatory was the last stop of the road, anything further was closed.
